The Consortium Arts Ensemble will play Benjamin Britten's Phantasy Quartet for Oboe and String Trio, as well as Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F major. Members consist of Anita Walsh on the violin, Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh on viola, Ben Bolt-Martin on cello, and the renowned Jim Mason on the oboe.

This program includes Barber’s moving Adagio for Strings, and his sunnier and more lyrical Violin Concerto.  The evening concludes with one of Brahms’s most optimistic and joyful works, his Symphony No. 2.

Music Director Gemma New kicks off the 17-18 Season with electrifying Russian classics. Canadian violinist and Los Angeles Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour makes his Hamilton solo debut in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic yet graceful Violin Concerto, while colourful and energetic works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin round out the program. The suite from Stravinsky’s breakthrough ballet The Firebird ends this concert with a bang as your HPO brings this dazzling and colourful score to life.
